Liquid Glucosamine
While glucosamine as a pill or tablet is readily available, and the best known of the glucosamine choices, liquid glucosamine is purported to be more effective.
This is allegedly because liquid glucosamine's bioavailability is considerably greater than glucosamine delivered as a tablet or in another solid form such as capsule. What this means is that the rate at which liquid glucosamine is absorbed into our body's blood stream is considerably faster than that of the tablet or capsule variety of glucosamine. The fact is that the human body has a more difficult time absorbing a capsule or gel than it does a liquid.
The other point to be made in favor of liquid glucosamine as opposed to solid glucosamine is that the human body only makes use of a portion of anything that it absorbs by pill. That portion is sometimes as low as twenty percent. If, for example, you ingest 100 mg of a solid vitamin, mineral or drug - prescription or over the counter - your blood stream may, in fact, only realize the effects of 20 mg of the ingredients. This is not the case with liquids. Substances delivered into your body's blood stream by liquid form are absorbed to a much greater extent, in fact, at nearly one hundred percent.
There are two benefits of this liquid glucosamine enhanced bioavailability. The first, as we've mentioned already, is that you get more of the glucosamine. You therefore get more of the therapeutic benefits of that glucosamine.
The second benefit of liquid glucosamine over the solid variety is that you realize the benefits of glucosamine more quickly.
Scientific studies have clearly shown that patient participants realized improvements in their joint and overall health considerably more quickly than those that took their glucosamine as a pill. Those who were taking liquid glucosamine started reporting relief from the pain and discomfort of arthritis within about two weeks. Those ingesting glucosamine by pill, however, did not report a realization of its benefits earlier than two months after the start of the glucosamine regimen.
Most glucosamine product will be sold as a combination with chondroitin, and some with MSM as well. The recommended daily dosage of glucosamine is 1000-2000 mg, and 1200 mg of chondroitin. When purchasing liquid glucosamine, as with the pill variety, shop carefully. What may seem the best buy may turn out to be less expensively than other brands simply because its minimum dosage is less, with fewer milligrams of the actual glucosamine or chrondroitin product in each capsule or spoonful.
